Choosing Your Season for the Karst Landscape

Spring is warm and often misty — the classic season for the 'painting-like' misty karst views. The fields are green and the flowers are out. It's a beautiful, popular season.
Summer is hot, humid, and rainy — with occasional floods on the Li River. The landscape is lush and dramatic, but the heat and storms can disrupt plans. Early summer is the wettest.
Autumn is the best season — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and the river at its most scenic. The famous rice terraces of Longsheng are golden. Crowds ease after early October.
Winter is mild, dry, and quiet — a pleasant time to visit with few crowds. The karst peaks are clear in the winter light, though the scenery is less lush.
The Li River cruise is best when water levels are healthy — generally spring to autumn. In dry winters the river can be shallow.
For the best combination, aim for September-October or April-May. Book the Li River cruise ahead in peak season. Pack for rain — an umbrella is essential year-round.
