Siguniang Mountain: Ultimate Travel Guide & Tips

Everything You Need for the Four Sisters

Plan My Trip →

The Siguniang (Four Sisters) Mountains are western Sichuan's most accessible alpine wonderland. From gentle valley walks to the 5,025m Dafeng summit, this ultimate guide covers everything you need to plan your adventure.

The Four Peaks

The Siguniang Mountains comprise four main peaks: Dafeng (5,025m), Erfeng (5,454m), Sanfeng (5,664m), and Yaomei (6,250m) — the 'Queen of Sichuan' and one of the most beautiful mountains in China. The range is a centerpiece of the UNESCO-listed Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries.

The Three Valleys

Shuangqiao Valley is the most accessible, with shuttle buses and the best views of the peaks. Changping Valley offers a long trek toward the east faces. Haizigou Valley features alpine lakes and flower meadows. Each valley provides a different perspective on the range.

Climbing Dafeng

Dafeng, at 5,025m, is the classic 'first high-altitude summit' — a steep but non-technical climb. The route goes from Rilong (3,200m) to the base camp (4,300m) and a pre-dawn summit push. A local guide is mandatory, and good fitness plus proper acclimatization are essential.

Best Time to Visit

June to October offers the best weather. July-August brings wildflowers in the valleys; September-October provides the clearest skies and the most dramatic autumn colors. Winter is for experienced climbers; spring is variable.

Getting There

Rilong, the base town, is about 200 kilometers from Chengdu — a 4-5 hour drive through the mountains. The new expressway has shortened travel time. Most visitors arrive by private car or organized tour.

Acclimatization & Safety

The area's altitude demands respect. Spend a night in Rilong to acclimatize, hike steadily, and hydrate. For the Dafeng climb, allow a full acclimatization day and travel with a certified mountain guide who carries oxygen and emergency equipment.

Practical Tips

Pack layers, rain gear, sun protection, and sturdy boots. Carry cash — card payments are limited in the mountains. Book trekking and climbing services through a reputable operator, and purchase travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking.
