About the Show
The Everlasting Sorrow (Chang Hen Ge) is China's premier outdoor historical live-action show, performed against the breathtaking backdrop of Huaqing Palace at the foot of Mount Li. Using real palace buildings, a lake stage, and hundreds of performers, it brings Bai Juyi's tragic love poem to life.
The show tells the story of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang and his beloved consort Yang Guifei, whose romance ended in tragedy during the An Lushan Rebellion. Divided into four acts, it features grand Tang dynasty costumes, traditional dance, and innovative special effects including fire, water and light shows.
What makes this show unique is its setting: the actual Huaqing Palace, a 3,000-year-old royal hot spring complex. The performance uses the palace halls, pavilions, and the natural lake as its stage, creating an immersive experience that no indoor theater can match.
